The Care Quality Commission (CQC) was full of praise for a care home, Yew Tree Lodge, which it rated as ‘good’ overall and in every category: “Is the service safe?” “effective”, “caring”, “responsive” and “well led”.
In its report, following an inspection, the CQC said, “The service continued to deliver good caring practice”. Residents who spoke with inspectors said staff were “very polite and respectful” and “all good”. Another resident said, “they praise me when I do things well… It’s all about me.”
Inspectors went on to say, “The service considered ways to reduce people’s isolation, recognising that for many people, due to their mental illness, they felt increasingly isolated… People and staff were engaged in a coffee morning. We observed staff and people discuss news issues, whilst eating pastry. We spoke with a person about the activity and were told: “The staff were asking our opinion and were discussing the world… no one was a patient, no one was a member of staff’.” The patient said there was complete equality between the two.
The inspectors considered there to be “good management and leadership. The registered manager was supported by a strong deputy manager, both of whom worked well together”.
Yew Tree Lodge supports people with enduring mental health needs and is located in Reading, Berkshire. The home is managed by Priory Adult Care, a division within the renowned Priory Group, the mental healthcare specialists.
