A Cornwall care service which helps people with learning disabilities live independently in their own homes, Priory Supported Living South Peninsula, has been rated ‘good’ overall, and in all care categories, by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog.
Following a recent inspection, CQC inspectors said, “When we visited people’s homes, we observed staff providing kind and considerate help, appropriate to each person’s care and support needs. People told us staff treated them respectfully and asked how they wanted their care and support to be provided. People told us staff did not rush them.”
“Comments from people about staff included, ‘They are great’, ‘They are all very kind to me’ and ‘They are fabulous’.”
The inspectors said, “Staff were motivated and clearly passionate about making a difference to people’s lives. Staff demonstrated a commitment to their work and worked together as a team. Comments from staff included, ‘I love the job, service users are my priority’.” The CQC went onto say, “Staff spoke about the people they supported fondly and displayed a pride in people’s accomplishments and a willingness to support people to develop further. They spoke about people positively and focussed on their achievements, demonstrating high expectations for people. One said, ‘It’s great to see people have the confidence to try new things’.”
Priory Supported Living South Peninsula supported living service supports people with autism, learning disabilities, mental health problems and behaviours that challenge to live independently. People are assisted to develop key life skills and are helped with the day-to-day tasks they may struggle with.
