Residents take on sponsored walk and raise £500 for the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association

Residents and staff members from Priory’s Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) services in East Sussex recently journeyed to nearby Hastings for the day, to attend Walkover PWS 2023, hosted by the PWS Association.

Walkover PWS was organised to raise awareness about PWS, and to enable supporters to fundraise for the charity, via taking sponsorships for the endeavour. The money raised will go towards the association’s research programme, which aims to improve our understanding of the impact PWS has on people’s lives, and ultimately improve outcomes for individuals with PWS.

Residents from Bishops Corner, Bishops Gate, and Bishops Lodge expressed their wish to take part in the event, and were supported by Priory staff to do so. The day out was held at Alexandra Park in Hastings, and consisted of a sponsored walk around the peaceful grounds, where attendees could enjoy the views of the duck ponds and pleasant greenery, as well as raise vital funds for the charity.

Priory supplied everyone who attended with a special water bottle to help them stay hydrated in the sun, which the residents were pleased about. The event was hugely successful, with over £500 raised for the charity through sponsorships from family and friends. In addition, the residents who attended had a fantastic time, and were delighted to have contributed to such an important cause.

“All residents attending completed the 1.5 miles proudly with their new bottle,” said Mandy Donno, Home Manager at Bishops Gate. “Once everyone had completed the walk around the park, we all stayed and enjoyed a lovely picnic.”
