Station Road Care Home in North London rated 'good' by the CQC

A local care home in north London, Station Road, was rated ‘good’ overall and in all care categories by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog. These categories were ‘is the service safe’, ‘effective’, ‘caring’, ‘responsive’ and ‘well-led’.

In the report, following their recent inspection, CQC inspectors said, “People told us they were treated in a caring and respectful manner by staff. Comments received from people included, ‘Staff are so nice. So co-operative. So very caring’ and ‘Staff treat me nicely. They are nice to me and respectful’. A relative told us, ‘They seem very caring.’ A second relative told us, ‘Staff do such an amazing job with such care and love.’”

Residents told the CQC “they were happy living at Station Road. They described a family atmosphere and close relationships with staff and other people who used the service. One person told us, ‘I like living here. It’s so nice with a friend. It’s nice to talk to him’. A second person told us, ‘I’m happy here. I get on with everybody.’ They further explained, ‘All staff support me. Every single one of them. Very supportive.’ A third person told us, ‘I’m happy, I have my room, space. I talk to my friends. We are family together.’”

The CQC said, “We observed kind and caring interactions between staff, the registered manager, quality lead and people who used the service. On the day of the inspection, some people were preparing to attend a Christmas party and were engaged in jovial banter with staff in relation to their choices of Christmas jumper.”

The inspectors said, “People were supported to engage in a range of activities which was varied and based on the person’s interests. On the day of the inspection, we saw the daily activities planner which included attending choir practice, day centre, Christmas parties, shopping and attending a disco… We saw that all people who used the service went on holidays during the summer and told us they had a great time on holidays.”

Station Road is managed by Priory Adult Care, a division within the renowned Priory Group. The home supports people with autism, learning disabilities and bipolar. It is located in Winchmore Hill, north London.

Olanike Ilesanmi, Registered Manager, said: “I am really pleased with all the lovely comments in this report. The inspectors, and our residents, and their relatives, praised us a lot and this means so much to my staff team. We will keep on doing the best we can for the residents we support.”

Hayden Knight, Managing Director for the South East at Priory Adult Care, said: “Station Road provides excellent care and support to its residents. I am pleased that its hard work and individualised approach to delivering care has been acknowledged by the regulator in this brilliant report.”
