A local care service in Bramley, The Mews, was rated ‘good’ overall and in all care categories by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog.

In the report, following their inspection, CQC inspectors said: ”We saw people were cared for by staff who were supportive, patient, friendly and understanding. They listened to what people want and took time to make sure their preferences were met. People we spoke with gave positive feedback about how staff supported them. One person told us, ‘Staff are good’. Another person commented, ‘I’m happy with the help I get’”.

Inspectors said, “During our visit we were shown round two of the flats and saw staff interacting with people when they visited the office. Staff supported people in an inclusive, sensitive and friendly manner, treating them with dignity and respect. They displayed a genuine affection and caring for the people they supported and everyone seemed at ease with each other.” Flats are decorated to residents’ individual preferences.

The CQC spoke of how staff support residents to do activities that interest them. Recent trips include going to watch football matches, visiting the local safari park and taking part in Rotherham Council’s annual learning disability sports day.

Staff encourage residents to share their views and give any ideas for improvements at monthly Your Voice meetings.

The Mews supports people with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge. It is located in Bramley, Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Rachel Turner is their General Manager.

Gail Linacre, Registered Manager, said: “I am really proud of this report and how it praises the service we provide. I am pleased that the inspectors consider us to provide safe, effective and responsive care.”

Nicola Bales, Manager Director for the North, Scotland and Northern Ireland at Priory Adult Care, said: “Everyone at Priory knows what such a great service this is, but I am pleased that its achievements have been praised by the external regulator. I know that its staff will continue to work as hard as they can to make sure its residents continue to get so much from their time at The Mews.”
