A care home in Ramsgate has been rated as ‘good’ for the quality of care it provides, by the independent health and social care regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC). 

In its report, which follows a recent inspection, the CQC praised Ebbsfleet House for being run in a “family style”, encouraging residents to pursue their own interests. It also praised the site for consulting residents and their relatives on the running of the home.

The CQC said, “There was a culture of warmth and openness. People were cared for and supported to develop their independence in a secure environment so that their confidence could grow. Staff were committed, and worked hard to get to know people so that they could provide a service that suited each person and increased their quality of life.”

Inspectors added, “The home was run in a family style. It was warm, friendly, and everyone’s individuality was respected and nurtured.”

A resident’s relative said to inspectors, “We would like to say how pleased we have been with the quality of care... staff manage their care with great sensitivity, thoughtfulness and due diligence.” The CQC said relatives were “welcome in the home, were complimentary of staff and felt well-informed and involved with their loved one’s care”.

Residents were encouraged to get involved with activities that suited their interests. During the inspection, the CQC saw “people in and out of the home doing different things, some people attended regular clubs, for example, two people went to a music club and others... for walks”. Residents have recently been horse-riding and visited local castles.

Ebbsfleet House is managed by Priory Adult Care, part of the renowned Priory Group. The service is located in Ramsgate, Kent. It provides support to people with autism and learning disabilities. Some residents also have communication difficulties, and conditions such as epilepsy.

Matt Snowden, Registered Manager, said: “Our team does its utmost to ensure that the people we support enjoy living here and are able to enhance their life skills. It is brilliant that the CQC recognises my team’s efforts, and the positive impact our service has on our residents’ wellbeing.”
