Martins care home for adults with autism and learning difficulties in Kent has been rated 'good' for the quality of care it provides by the independent health and social care regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The service was also rated 'good' in all individual categories.
In the report following the inspection at Martins, which offers round the clock specialist support, within a personalised, residential facility in Ramsgate, the CQC said; “People were cared for and supported to develop their independence and confidence.”
The staff were praised for the way they provided a warm, nurturing environment run in a "family style" with a range of different activities and interests. Staff were also shown to be committed and working hard to provide an individual service that suited each person and improved their quality of lifestyle.
Martins encourages residents to follow a healthy lifestyle by introducing activities such as cycling and walking, which was also highlighted by the CQC in their overall summary.
The report said: "Days included plenty of exercise and activities. People particularly enjoyed cycling and walking in the local area. Health and social care professionals were involved as much as needed. Each person had clear guidelines and support to manage health conditions like epilepsy and to take prescribed medicines safely."
Each individual has their own weekly timetable, which details their preferred activities consisting of in-house and community based activities. They are also supported with college courses or access to voluntary and paid work in order to build on their confidence, self-esteem and the skills they need to live as independently as possible.
Matt Snowden, Registered Manager, said: "At Martins, we are thrilled with the outcome of our latest CQC inspection as we have all worked incredibly hard to ensure that are residents are happy, comfortable and always inspired to achieve their goals. Individuality is important to us and our residents are encouraged to make choices on the meals they eat and to help with the cooking. Everyone who has been involved in creating the 'family feel' in our home should feel proud to have been recognised positively by the CQC during this inspection."
