A care home in Folkestone, Maple House, has been rated ‘good’ in every category and overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog.

In the report, following their recent inspection, inspectors, said: “The people that we spoke with and observed during the inspection were clearly happy living at Maple House and enjoyed talking to staff and engaging in activities with them. The atmosphere was very relaxed, warm and homely. Thought had gone into making communal areas inviting and comfortable for people. There was a strong and clear person centred culture, with everything planned around the individual and centred on the person.”

Inspectors said: “Staff were attentive; people were given personalised care and were supported in a way that they preferred. Some people had specific needs and routines that were accommodated well by the staff. There was laughter; people and staff were seen to have fun together and shared a laugh and a joke and people looked happy.”

The report mentions how residents attend monthly Your Voice meetings to discuss any suggestions or ideas for improvements they have. Residents asked for a bigger TV so the home bought a brand new one. They take part in a range of activities, including going bowling, shopping and taking day trips such as to seaside towns.

Cherise Naunko, Registered Manager, said: “This is report is excellent news for us. It shows everyone that our hard work is making a difference. However, we will constantly look to improve further and create the best possible opportunities for our residents.”

Hayden Knight, Managing Director for the South East said: “I just want to take this opportunity to thank the team at Maple House for everything they have done for the service. I am sure that the staff will be as committed as ever as they look to build on this most recent success.”
