Berelands House has been rated ‘very good’ in all care categories by the Care Inspectorate, the health and social care regulator in Scotland.
In the report, following their inspection, inspectors said: “We found the atmosphere in the home to be calm, welcoming and happy.” They also commented, “Staff practice was person centred. We saw good examples of genuine, warm interactions which residents responded to positively. We found that staff of all departments valued and respected residents and the development of very good relationships had supported positive experiences for residents and their families. This created a calm, safe and relaxed atmosphere with lots of engaging interactions between residents, relatives and staff.”
The residents that spoke to inspectors and responded to their survey were very positive about the service. A resident’s relative told inspectors, “Staff are excellent – I couldn’t do their job. Very happy with everything”. Another relative said, “This is home from home. They have an amazing activity programme which residents love and relatives can join in. My mum is always treated with respect and dignity”. A third relative said, “Marks out of 10, definitely 11. Over and above our expectations.”
A resident said, “I am very happy with my care. The food is wonderful, always a choice. There is always something to do. We have residents meetings and activity staff are always arranging something. I go to the gardening group. The staff are wonderful. From the lady who cleans my room to the handyman and all the carers. They always treat me with dignity and respect”.
The Care Inspectorate spoke about how residents can personalise their bedrooms to their personal tastes. The home has three activity coordinators meaning that residents are supported to do the things they enjoy.
Teresa Mangonon, Registered Manager, said: “I am delighted with this report. It is a huge credit to our staff team that we have been rated ‘very good’ in every category. They really do desere all of this praise.”
Nicola Bales, Manager Director for the North, Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: “I enjoyed reading the comments in the report and I am proud of the great care delivered by the staff team. What stood out for me was how highly residents regard their home. I am sure that the staff team will keep up the excellent work.”
