Woodpecker Lodge in Weir End, Ross-on-Wye, has been praised by independent care inspectors for the quality of care it offers adults with a learning disability, autism or a mental health condition.

In its latest report, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which regulates health and care services, said staff at Woodpecker Lodge "were motivated to provide the best care." The CQC also praised 'Your Voice' meetings, and the good communication and positive relationships evident between staff and residents.

The CQC said it saw "people were relaxed and there was general chatter." It also said "relatives told us staff were approachable and had good relationships with people that lived there."

The staff team were praised highly. Inspectors spoke with residents who said staff were "all kind and helpful." The CQC report described how individuals' interests were catered for, and how one person was supported to pursue their hobby of horse riding.

The report - which rated the home as "good" across the board - highlighted the fact that residents could go to 'Your Voice' meetings, where they could identify any changes they would like to be made, as well as any social or fundraising events they would like to be involved in, with the team's support.

Welcoming the CQC's report, acting service manager Kirsty Priest said: "We are very pleased with this report. It reflects the hard work the team has put into making Woodpecker Lodge a happy place."
