A local care home in Bristol, Elm Tree House, was rated ‘good’ overall and in all care categories by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog. These categories were ‘is the service safe’, ‘effective’, ‘caring’, ‘responsive’ and ‘well-led’.
In the report, following their recent inspection, CQC inspectors said, “Throughout our inspection we saw that people were treated with respect and in a caring and kind way. The staff were friendly, patient and discreet when providing support to people. We saw that all the staff took the time to speak with people as they supported them. We observed many positive interactions and saw that these supported people’s wellbeing. We saw a member of staff laughing and joking with one person and saw how this enhanced the individual’s mood.”
They went onto say, “People received personalised care that was responsive to their needs and wishes. From our discussions with staff, it was clear they were knowledgeable about the people they were supporting.”
The report mentions how residents take part in a range of activities including horse riding, animal therapy and sports. Keyworkers also help residents to plan holidays. A visiting professional told an inspector that residents are “guided by what people want. People’s needs are all different so the activities are quite diverse; they’re definitely person-centred.” Later in the report inspectors said, “People had been supported to maintain links with the local community through attending various clubs, social activities and employment opportunities.”
Elm Tree House is managed by Priory Adult Care, a division within the renowned Priory Group. The home supports people with autism, Down Syndrome and complex conditions. It is located in Keynsham, Bristol.
Geraldine Leavy, Registered Manager, said: “I am delighted with how this report reflects the magnificent work we do here. I am proud of everyone who works with us for what we are achieving at Elm Tree House.”
Justine Cahill, Managing Director for the South West and Wales at Priory Adult Care, said: “Well done to everyone at Elm Tree House that makes it the excellent care home that it is. The home prides itself on the high standards of care and support that it offers.”
