Following a recent inspection visit, the service, based on Burton Road, met all the required standards including:
- Respecting and involving people who use the service
- Care and welfare of people who use the service
- Safety and suitability of premises
- Staffing
- Assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision
The report noted that ‘people were cared for in an environment that was safe, clean and hygienic’ and ‘people were supported by kind and attentive staff.’
Staff were praised for ‘taking into account the complex needs of people when planning activities’ with the inspector stating that ‘people had access to activities that were designed to stimulate them such as attending arts and pottery classes at a local college.’
Speaking to the inspector one relative said ‘staff are more than supportive. I’ve always found them very approachable.’ An individual supported by the service was also complimentary saying ‘I have a busy life here, every day I do something I like and help out with the cleaning and cooking. It keeps me busy and staff help me to do a good job.’
The Oaklands is a large detached house that is situated within walking distance of Derby city centre. It provides assessment and rehabilitation for up to eight adults with mental health problems aged 18 years and over. Individuals are supported to develop daily living skills and move towards more independent living.
