Care home residents in Coleraine have proved their artistic merit after coming out on top in a national Christmas art project.

The Priory Adult Care (formerly Amore Care) calendar and card competition was launched to encourage residents to produce a drawing or picture based on the four seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Ten residents*, who live in Bohill care home in Coleraine, have had their art work included in the company’s 2014 calendar and corporate Christmas card.

The Bohill residents, who are aged between 75 and 94 were presented with vouchers by the mayor, Cllr David Harding in recognition of their endeavours.

Tracey Henry, home manager, said: “Priory Adult Care (formerly Amore Care) prides itself on providing activities that either match our residents’ interests and hobbies or help them to learn new talents and skills.

“Many people who live in our homes already possess or have developed fantastic artistic abilities during their time with us. This calendar and Christmas card initiative is a way of recognising their creative talents.

“The standard of entries was exceptionally high and it was not easy to choose between the hundreds of pieces of art work.  It is obvious however that in Coleraine there are some very talented older people.”

*The residents involved were Margaret Tweed 93, Sadie McLaughlin 82, Margaret Jamison 94, Betty Clark 87, Margaret Stirling 75, Patsy Doran 81, Anne Stewart 87, Margaret Reid 75, Dorothy Ellison 85
