Bohill Bungalows is celebrating after its employees had their work recognised and celebrated at a national awards ceremony.
More than 200 people gathered at The Heythrop Park Hotel in Oxfordshire for the Priory’s PRIDE Awards, which aim to reward the achievements of outstanding staff members from amongst the 19,000 workforce, at more than 400 facilities managed by the Priory Group, the world-famous mental healthcare chain.
Bohill’s staff team won in the ‘Being a Family’ award category, and were presented with their award by Priory Adult Care Chief Executive Office, James Willis.
He said that the team won the award against very stiff opposition, and were an example of what great care looks like. In particular the team’s “genuine family feel had a measurable impact on residents, with one resident saying ‘this is my forever home and I don’t want to go anywhere else. The staff is my family’.”
Mr Willis added: “The staff are a highly dedicated team, who all pull together, help one another no matter what, and value each other’s opinions and suggestions. Their approach creates a truly family feel to Bohill Bungalows.”
House manager Sheree Quinn, of Bohill Bungalows, was also a finalist at the Priory’s PRIDE awards for ‘acting with integrity’. Mr Willis said: “Sheree leads by example. She is an advocate for all the service users and families. She takes complex situations in her stride, organising extra training for colleagues. Having attended a Brain Injury conference, she brought back a wealth of knowledge and ideas for her team. If one activity doesn’t work, she reflects and tries something different.”
Other winners were nominated by colleagues and selected by a panel of judges from Priory Group’s executive team in categories such as ‘Being Positive’ and ‘Striving for Excellence’.
Mr Willis said: “Priory’s ‘PRIDE’ awards allow us to recognise people who are doing something exceptional. Many amazing things go on in our care homes every day, and Bohill Bungalows can be very proud of winning in their category. It was fantastic to celebrate the very best of Priory Adult Care – those people who make a real and lasting difference, daily, for those in their care.”
Bohill Bungalows offers specialist support and individual care for 24 people.
Just a few miles outside Coleraine, it is a residential and nursing home for men and women over the age of 18 with learning disabilities, autism, complex physical disabilities and acquired brain injury.
Accommodation is split across four bungalows, all comprising en-suite bedrooms. Each house has a lounge, dining room, kitchen and an enclosed garden. Each bungalow offers something different and will be matched to residents depending on their needs. One bungalow has an activity room, another a quiet lounge for visitors and two have sensory rooms.
Meanwhile Bohill Bungalows was also a finalist in the 2017 Independent Health and Care Providers’ (IHCP) site of the year award.
Samuel McMullan, of Bohill Bungalows, was winner of IHCP’s ‘Backbone’ award. The award is presented for ‘the vital work’ that staff working in support services do as the backbone of providing quality care services, and is aimed at those who provide services outside the scope or standard normally expected for such roles.
