Cherrywood House, was rated ‘good’ overall and in all care categories by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog.
In the report, following their inspection, CQC inspectors said: “When we spoke with people throughout the inspection they spoke positively about how they were cared for and about the staff that supported them. During a conversation with one person we spoke with we asked if the staff were nice to you and the person told us, ‘Yes’ and smiled at us.”
Residents and their relatives made many positive remarks to inspectors. A resident said, “I’m happy here it’s really nice. The staff are my friends as well”. A resident’s relative said, “The staff have always been a pleasure”. Another relative considered Cherrywood House to be “really good” for their family member.
Inspectors said, “It was clear there were good relationships between people and staff. People were at ease with staff and there was a relaxed atmosphere in the service when staff engaged with people.” They went onto say, “staff demonstrated a very good understanding of people’s care and support needs”.
The CQC said, “People were encouraged to undertake activities and access the wider community”. Some residents regularly go shopping and take buses into nearby towns.
Cherrywood House supports people with autism, learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge. It is located in Weston Super Mare, Somerset.
