Manager Sophie Herring wins ‘Mental Health Award’ in the local Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards

Sophie Herring - Manager at Bromyard Grove, WorcesterThe home manager at Bromyard Road, Sophie Herring recently won an award which honours her contributions to the health and care sector in Worcestershire. The awards, sponsored by the University of Worcester, seeks to celebrate the heroes of the health and social care profession.

A star-studded virtual celebratory evening was held on the 13th of October, with messages of support from famous TV stars, actors, actresses and sportsmen and women, the winners of 12 categories were announced. The awards were presented by Dr Dawn Harper, an NHS GP and television presenter from Embarrassing Bodies.

The Mental Health award was sponsored by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust’s Now We’re Talking campaign. The campaign aims to reduce stigma and encourage more local people to access mental health support across the region.

Bromyard Road is one of our specialist residential services, providing mental health support in a residential setting to women with complex needs. The home is led by Sophie, who works closely with her dedicated and skilled team of support workers.

The colleague who nominated Sophie for the award said, “We have had a rough, emotionally draining two-and-a-half years, Sophie has been a truly amazing person, making time and creating safe spaces.

“Sophie goes above and beyond, to ensure all the women at Bromyard Grove are valued and heard.”

With many of the residents at the home being classed as clinically vulnerable, the support team at Bromyard Road spent the lockdown period in a bubble at the home, meaning the workers were unable to see their own family during this time. Sophie led the service through these challenges, acting with care, respect and integrity throughout.

Sophie said, “I am so delighted to have won this award; it means so much to be recognised. It is a testament to all of the great work that the staff team at Bromyard Road do in delivering person-centred support to a truly fabulous group of women.

“We all work together and play our part in striving to achieve excellent outcomes for the women who use the service.  Thank you to each and every one of you who lives and works at Bromyard Road for making my job a pleasure.”
