Priory Adult Care's (formerly Amore Care) The Oaks Care Home on Sidcup Road in New Eltham, in South London has replaced lighting, flooring and fixtures in the lounges, which have dining areas and kitchen facilities.
Home Manager Amos Samasuwo said: “We are constantly striving to offer the best for our residents, not only in the quality of care, in our nursing and our activities, but also in the environment in which they live.
“We have updated our lounges, which were in good order previously, to the extent that patients’ families have commented that we look even more like a five star hotel.
“We’re very pleased with the feedback and the effect the new lighting and brightness has had on our residents.
“There is a great deal of research into the kind of lighting which is best to enhance the environment of people with dementia. We have incorporated latest thinking into what we have done and we are very pleased with the results.”
The second phase of refurbishment will involve décor and fixtures and fittings in the corridors, which is due to start before the end of the year. Work on residents’ bedrooms will follow.
