A care home in Plymouth, Ridgecott, has been rated ‘good’ overall and in all care categories by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog.
In the report, following their inspection, inspectors said: “There was a warm, caring and relaxed atmosphere in the home. We saw people sitting together and chatting with staff about plans for the day. The conversations were positive and we heard and saw plenty of laughter and smiles. Staff were attentive to people’s needs and understood when people needed reassurance, praise or guidance.”
Inspectors went on to say, “Staff spoke passionately about their work and demonstrated a wish to ensure people led a fulfilled and positive lifestyle.” They said the home manager demonstrated “a passion for the service and modelled high standards of care, through a hands on approach and attention to detail”. Residents’ family members spoke of the home positively to inspectors and made remarks such as “All the staff are bubbly, welcoming and caring, they work hard to do the best for people” and “The manager is fantastic, she really does care".
The report mentioned how residents are encouraged to take part in a range of activities. Current residents go to cafes, local shops, the cinema and a music group.
Annette Mitchell, Registered Manager, said: “I am so proud of our residents, their relatives and our staff for working together to make this such a warm and welcoming home. All I want is for our residents to live the best lives they possibly can, and this report shows we are doing great things to help them to do this.”
Justine Cahill, Managing Director for the South West and Wales, said: “Ridgecott is clearly a lovely home. Everyone is full of praise for the home manager, Annette, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for everything she has done. However, everyone plays an equal part so I would like to thank all associated with Ridgecott for their tremendous efforts.”
