A Kent care home rated ‘good’ by the CQC

A care home in Romney Marsh, Eden Cottage, has been rated ‘good’ overall and in every care category by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the health and social care watchdog.

In the report, following a recent inspection, CQC inspectors said, “There was friendly chatting and laughter during the visit. The service was very much centred on this being a people’s home where they lived their life as they wished to. The staff spoke with warmth and compassion. People responded well to staff interaction, which was given in a relaxed and warm manner. Staff spoke with people in a way that encouraged increased confidence, and praised people on their achievements.”

Inspectors said, “People were supported by staff who knew them well and understand their individual needs and their likes and dislikes. Our observations showed staff clearly knew people’s preferences and how to communicate with them effectively. Staff spoke with people, and each other, with kindness, respect and patience.”

The report mentions how each resident has a keyworker who works with them on an individual basis to develop a relationship and to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and wishes. Residents take part in a range of activities of their choosing, including gardening, swimming and going to other local attractions. The home hosts small parties and open days with other sites its provider manages.

Eden Cottage is managed by Priory Adult Care, a new division within the Priory Group. It brings together two Priory adult care divisions, Craegmoor and Amore Care. The home supports people with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge. The home is located in Romney Marsh, Kent.
