A care home in Hurlford, Newhouse, has been rated ‘very good’ in two care categories by health and social care watchdog, the Care Inspectorate.
In the report, following a recent inspection, inspectors said: “Newhouse has showed a commitment to involving people and getting feedback on the running of the development of the service. We saw the manager responds individually to each comment raised at the ‘your voice’ meetings which are in place to give those in the service a forum to talk about things they like, want to do or are not happy with.”
Inspectors went on to say, “Staff told us they have worked with individuals to try to find out what they enjoy doing and what their personal goals and dreams are. They have ‘wishing trees’ in the lounges to display people’s aspirations and also photos of when people have achieved these.”
Newhouse is managed by Priory Adult Care, a new division within the renowned Priory Group. It brings together two Priory adult care divisions, Craegmoor and Amore Care. The home supports people with learning disabilities and is located in Hurlford, Kilmarnock.
The service was rated ‘very good’ in the “quality of care and support” and “quality of management and leadership” care categories. The “quality of environment” and “quality of staffing” categories were not assessed during this inspection.
Mark Lilley, Registered Manager, said: “This is a great report as it reflects the tremendous amount of effort our team puts into improving the lives of the people we support. We will all continue to work as hard as we can to hopefully become even stronger.”
Nicola Bales, Managing Director for the North, Scotland and Northern Ireland at Priory Adult Care, said: “I am delighted with this report. The service is always committed to improving and learning from feedback, so I am pleased that the inspectors could see the impact that this has on the care of the people we support.”
