Westview
The service provided at Westview is designed to meet the needs of individuals who have a learning disability, and may have autism or Prader-Willi Syndrome. Everyone at Westview is encouraged to develop their individual skills to maximise independence, with opportunities for supported employment available.
All people who are supported at Westview have a person-centred plan which shapes the level of assistance provided; these are created on an individual basis with input from the individual, their family and their key worker.
Amongst the services available at Westview are:
- Innovative person centred support programmes in a safe and caring environment
- Service users can have their views heard via Priory Adult Care’s “Our Voice” meetings
- Progression through a care pathway that fulfils each individual’s maximum potential to live more independently
Living at Westview
Westview is based in the heart of Folkestone, a harbour town on the south Kent coast. From our home, individuals can walk a short distance to the town centre, beach and harbour. The train station and bus station are within easy walking distance and the motorway can be reached in a just few minutes by car.
Westview provides an environment that supports service users to reach their full potential in daily living skills, thereby maximising their opportunity for independence. We provide opportunities for service users to make and maintain relationships with both friends and family.
People at Westview have devised a cooking and cleaning schedule and this is followed every day. All individuals manage their own washing with little staff support, although this is provided where necessary. All individuals help to prepare all meals and are fully involved in the ordering of food. This enables people to learn important skills required for a more independent future. We operate a weekly menu, which is agreed upon in the monthly "Our Voice" resident meeting.
Our facilities
Westview is a large Victorian house with all decor chosen by the people living here. We have spacious communal areas, including a large kitchen and living room/diner where residents can socialise and undertake activities.
There is a calm and peaceful atmosphere, especially in our well-maintained garden. In the summer we hold barbecues, which friends and family are welcome to attend. In the summer months, we grow a vegetable patch. Individuals are fully involved in the upkeep of the garden and growing their own vegetables.
We have our own minibus at Westview, although to promote independence, individuals are encouraged to walk or use public transport wherever possible.
“I like living here because I like to help staff cook on my cooking day.”
