About this location

The Old Vicarage is located in Bristol. Our home provides residential support for nine adults. This includes people who are on the autism spectrum, or have a learning disability or mental health needs. We can also support people who have:

The Old Vicarage is located on a side street, just off a main road. We support individuals to be as independent as possible, while ensuring they receive the support they need.

About our service

Our facilities and environment

The Old Vicarage is a large, detached Victorian house that offers a relaxed and homely environment for our residents. There are nine bedrooms and four communal bathrooms in the property, split across two floors. All of the bedrooms also have activities of daily living (ADL) kitchenettes.

Our bedrooms

All of our bedrooms are comfortable, welcoming and can be personalised to individual tastes. Our bedrooms have robust, low arousal furniture.

Our approach to support

Everyone who lives at The Old Vicarage has their own person-centred care plan, which is co-produced with input from the individual, their family members and professionals involved in their care. We aim to help everyone in our care to make their own choices about the support they receive. This may include support in a number of areas, such as going out in the community, personal care, independence and daily living skills.

We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of support to our residents, enabling them to build their skills, live more independently and reach their goals.

Our support approaches at The Old Vicarage include positive behaviour support (PBS). We also have support from a local community learning disability team (CLDT) team, including psychology, psychiatry and speech and language therapy (SaLT). In addition, we use tools such as the Outcomes Star™ to support our residents to achieve their goals.

The lengths of the placements that we offer at The Old Vicarage can be medium or long-term residential, depending on the needs of each person.

Activities

Everyone who lives at The Old Vicarage has their own personalised activities planner and are encouraged to take part in activities which are meaningful and fulfilling to them. Our dedicated team organise a variety of activities at the home, as well as out in the community.

We focus on supporting our residents to grow their independence. For some people, this may mean developing their daily living skills within the home. For others, this could be accessing work or educational opportunities in the local community.

People who pose a risk to others in communal living areas.

Through our network of healthcare, residential and supported living facilities, we provide unique care pathways which help the people we support to progress towards greater independence. Every individual we support is provided with a bespoke pathway plan, tailored according to their individual needs. We aim to ensure that each person is supported to live a fulfilling and active life in the community.

Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents to visit their family homes. We will work with the resident and their relatives to ensure that everyone is supported during home visits.

Can friends and families visit?

Yes, family and friends can visit The Old Vicarage. We also support visits off-site or at our residents’ family homes. Unfortunately, family members cannot stay overnight, however, residents can stay at their family home overnight.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

We are committed to keeping loved ones of our residents involved in their care. Families are regularly invited to meetings at the home, where they will meet with the residents’ support team and hear about things that have been going on at The Old Vicarage. We can also arrange more regular catch-ups either in person or via telephone, to ensure families are kept informed.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Yes, your loved one will be able to call you whenever they would like to. We have a house phone available to use for residents without access to their own personal mobile phones.

What are the bedrooms like?

Bedrooms are all furnished and are decorated according to residents’ preferences.

Are external doors kept locked?

Yes, our external doors are locked. However, every resident will be risk assessed to determine the level of security needed.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Residents are supported to choose and prepare what they want to eat and when they would like to have their meals.

How does laundry work?

There is a communal laundry machine for all residents to use.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

We support our residents to carry out daily household tasks, to increase their independence.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

We have a banned and restricted items list, which can be seen on request.

How do activities work?

We promote wellbeing and independence at The Old Vicarage, and encourage residents to choose activities that are enjoyable and meaningful to them.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention. We require our care plans which include restrictions to be assessed frequently, for example procedures for interventions such as pro re nata (PRN) medication are regularly reviewed and removed, where possible. Our residents also benefit from PBS.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

Yes, we encourage families to be involved and have an input into their loved ones’ care plans, wherever possible and appropriate.

What are the car parking facilities?

There is free car parking available just outside the main building.

What is the smoking policy?

We have a designated area outside for residents to smoke.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
