Our approach to support

Everybody who lives at The Lodge has their own person-centred care plan, which is co-produced with input from the individual, their family members and professionals involved in their care. We aim to help everyone in our care to make their own choices about the support they receive. This may include support in a number of areas, such as going out in the community, personal care, cooking and cleaning, managing finances and maintaining family relationships.

Our support approaches at The Lodge include positive behaviour support (PBS). We also have support from a local multidisciplinary team to offer additional health services to residents. In addition, we use tools such as the Outcomes Star™ to support our residents to achieve their goals.

The lengths of the placements that we offer at The Lodge can be medium or long-term residential, depending on the needs of each person.

Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support residents with home leave if they wish, supporting with transporting to and from their family home, ensuring that the visits meet everyone’s needs.

Can friends and families visit?

We encourage and support visits from family and friends. We do ask that we are informed in advance of visits to ensure there are no conflicting appointments or activities and to enable us to support our resident with any anxiety that unknown visitors might cause.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

We encourage and support the loved ones of our residents to be involved in their care. This will be person-centred, depending on the wishes of the family members and their loved ones. We offer regular catch ups via phone or in person. We will also provide updates as and when required such as medical appointments and goals achieved.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

The Lodge has one incoming phone line, which is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some residents may choose to have their own mobile phone to communicate with friends and family.

What are the bedrooms like?

Bedrooms are all furnished. However residents are supported to personalise their bedroom to suit their wishes, with furnishings, personal items and other items of décor.

Are external doors kept locked?

Due to the nature of the service, and our location on a main road, all external doors are locked via a keypad. However each resident who has access to the keypad is assessed individually and in consultation with our team.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Residents are supported to eat their preferred choices of food, whenever they like. We also provide a rolling menu based on balanced meals. We encourage residents to participate in food preparation and menu planning, where possible.

How does laundry work?

Our laundry facilities are available every day, whatever the time. Residents are supported to complete laundry.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

We have a domestic assistant on site. Residents are also supported in line with their individual needs to complete daily living skills tasks, such as cleaning of bedrooms, and laundry.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

We may place restrictions on some items where the risks cannot be appropriately managed, such as non-approved drugs.

How do activities work?

Every resident chooses their desired activities. We also regularly plan in-house activities too, such as karaoke, bingo, and parties. Everyone has their own tailored activities planner, and full consideration is given to each person’s preferences, hobbies and aspirations.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We utilise the PROACT-SCIPr-UK framework, which focuses on supporting individuals in the least restrictive way possible, ensuring that quality of life is at the heart of every person's support. Our PBS practitioner will work with people to develop PBS plans, which includes strategies to meet their individual needs.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

We work with residents, families and social workers to develop care plans which are person-centred and focused on the individual needs of the people staying here. Plans are regularly reviewed, and families will be involved in this process, where this is in line with the resident’s best interests.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have a car park situated at the front of the main house.

What is the smoking policy?

We have a designated area in the garden for residents to smoke or to vape, and they can be supported to purchase cigarettes at the shop. Smoking is not permitted inside the home.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary, and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
