Jennifer came to live at The Lawrence at a very difficult time in her life. Since then, she has been supported to develop her daily living skills, and has recently discovered new passions.
Support at The Lawrence
When Jennifer arrived at The Lawrence, she began to receive one-to-one support from dedicated keyworkers, and tailored care plans were developed in line with her specific needs. Initially, Jennifer was very reserved and lacked in confidence. She struggled with hoarding and had difficulty understanding which items to keep, and which to throw away. Jennifer also had challenges with maintaining her personal hygiene.
These specific areas of focus were outlined in Jennifer’s care plans so that her core staff team could ensure she received the right support. Quickly, Jennifer began to settle in to life at The Lawrence, became more confidence, and built up her independent living skills. In particular, Jennifer is more mindful of her unhelpful shopping habits, and she is now able to throw things away that she no longer needs.
Jennifer's positive outcomes
The support team at the home encourages residents to take part in activities which they find meaningful and fulfilling. Jennifer expressed that she loves to bake and now regularly makes treats to share with everybody at The Lawrence. Recently, she has been supported to set goals to cook new meals, and with support from her keyworkers, helps to prepare the Sunday roast for her peers.
Jennifer also enjoys participating in the regular arts and crafts sessions held at The Lawrence. With the encouragement of the team at the home, Jennifer became motivated to enrol in a variety of educational courses at the local college, including arts classes. Since then, she has also completed a mathematics qualification, and gained a certificate in employability skills.
Recently, Jennifer has also taken on the responsibility of caring for Teddy, the rescue dog at The Lawrence, which has motivated her to take better care of herself. She loves looking after Teddy, and in turn, Teddy helps Jennifer sustain a more structured daily routine, including maintaining her own personal hygiene.
Since moving to The Lawrence, Jennifer is living a far more fulfilled and independent life. "I feel good that staff support me every day," said Jennifer. "I love living at The Lawrence." Everybody at the home is so proud of her achievements and are excited to see what she accomplishes next.
