The Lawrence
The Lawrence offers residential support for adults with a range of learning disabilities. We aim to provide a safe and homely environment, where all individuals can make their own choices about the support they receive. We focus on providing support that maximises each individual's potential, with regards to physical, intellectual, emotional and social capacity.
Our approach to support
Each individual designs their own person-centred plan, which is tailored to suit personal needs and provide the correct level of support required. We encourage and support everyone at The Lawrence to identify their goals and ambitions and how they would like to go about meeting them.
The Lawrence promotes Priory Adult Care’s communication strategy, "Our Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service.
Activities and facilities
The Lawrence is a large detached home with 14 single bedrooms. The home has spacious communal areas, including an activities room where residents can use to socialise and follow their interests and hobbies. The home also has two front gardens and a patio area, which is used for eating outside and for enjoying BBQs in the summer.
The service is located in the village of Wrenthorpe, and is within walking distance of the village's local amenities, as well as plenty of green space. The home is well-connected, benefitting from good public transport links, so residents can travel to nearby city Wakefield. The M1 and M62 motorways are also easily accessible, making Leeds and Barnsley just a short journey away.
There is a wide range of activities to get involved with at The Lawrence. We offer daily activity programmes, which are planned with the help of each individual. These include arts and crafts, bingo, shopping trips, going to the cinema, socialising at the local pub and going on trips to the seaside. Many individuals attend various courses and colleges and enjoy joining in with community events, with everyone encouraged and supported to pursue and fulfil their own interests.
“Staff support me to lead an active life and improve my skills.”
