Priory Elton Unit

Elton Unit is a 28-bedded specialist care home which facilitates quality care for adults aged 18 years and older, with a brain injury. The brain injury service is aimed at those whose disability requires management by a specialist team of practitioners who work together to maintain the patient’s wellbeing and quality of life. The Elton Unit offers specialist care for a wide range of complex neurodisabilities including patients in a prolonged disorder of consciousness (PDOC).

Care includes:

  • Respiratory management of the neurologically impaired patient
  • Postural management
  • Dysphagia management
  • Spasticity management
  • Enteral feeding
  • Epilepsy management

Family-centred philosophy

At Elton Unit, a family-centered philosophy is embraced, recognising the vital role families play in the well-being and care of patients. Families are encouraged to actively participate in care planning and decision-making processes, enabling a collaborative approach to providing the best possible care.

Social and recreational activities

To promote social engagement and recreational activities, Elton Unit offers a welcoming and informal environment. A dedicated social and recreational coordinator is responsible for organising various group activities such as:

  • Community trips
  • Games
  • Art and crafts sessions
  • Video sessions
  • Monthly theme nights

Additionally, individualised activities such as home visits and outings, including meals outside the facility, are arranged to cater to the personal preferences and needs of each patient.

The unit has a dedicated, caring and experienced team who work closely together to meet our patients' needs. The team includes:

  • Access to a consultant neuropsychologist

Elton Unit facilities

Elton Unit boasts specially adapted facilities designed to cater to the physical needs of its patients. The 28 personalised bedrooms provide a comfortable and personalised living space for each individual. The shower/bathroom facilities are fully adapted and well-equipped to ensure safety and accessibility.

Social and recreational rooms are available for patients to engage in various activities, while patient lounges offer a relaxing and comfortable space for socialising. A quiet lounge is provided for patients and visiting relatives, to have appropriate personal time. The large dining room facilitates communal dining experiences, fostering a sense of community. The facility is surrounded by peaceful grounds with a patio and seating area, providing patients with opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. A sensory area is available to stimulate the senses, and a minibus is provided for the Elton Unit's transportation needs.
