Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents to attend family events and visit their family homes. To ensure the visit goes smoothly and all risks are managed, sometimes the individual’s key worker will come along on the visit.

Can friends and families visit?

Family and friends are welcome to visit and join in our activities. Unfortunately, we cannot cater for visitors to stay overnight.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

We strive to keep the loved ones of our residents involved in their care. We can arrange regular catch-ups either in person or via telephone, to ensure you are kept informed.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Our home has cordless phones at various points around the property which can be used by residents at any time. In addition, we can support them to get their own mobile phone, where appropriate.

What are the bedrooms like?

Flats are all furnished and residents can decorate them how they wish. Some of the furniture has been purchased to suit the needs of our residents and some of it is fitted, and therefore cannot be removed.

Are external doors kept locked?

Yes, due to the nature of our service, our external doors are locked. However, every resident will be risk assessed to determine the level of security needed. We have a large garden area which they can enjoy.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Residents go shopping weekly for their own food, and we can support them to adhere to special dietary requirements. Everyone who lives at Roseneath Avenue has their own kitchen, where they prepare their food. Our support team are on-hand to provide assistance, if needed.

How does laundry work?

Residents are given help to do their own laundry, in a separate utility room. Our staff can offer support, if and when it is required. Clean clothes and bedding is always provided, if a resident is unable or unwilling to do their laundry.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Roseneath Avenue encourages residents to develop their independence, and this includes life skills such as cleaning. With support from staff, residents can clean and tidy their own flats.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

We would ask that residents do not bring valuables such as family heirlooms to our home, as we cannot guarantee their safety. We may place restrictions on some items where the risks cannot be appropriately managed, such as non-approved drugs and medications, solvent-based products and lighters.

How do activities work?

Residents are supported using communication tools to have an input into their own activities plans. This will include both in-house activities as well as visits into the community. We will work with each person to understand what they enjoy, and what their goals are, and help them put together a varied routine of activities to support this.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention. We require our care plans which include restrictions to be assessed frequently, for example procedures for interventions such as pro re nata (PRN) medication are regularly reviewed and removed, where possible.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

Residents, families and social workers are involved with the care plans to ensure the best interests of those staying with us. We use a variety of communication tools to work collaboratively with the person we care for to co-produce the plans so they are tailored to their needs. They are regularly reviewed.

What are the car parking facilities?

There is on street parking with restrictions from 10.30am to 11.30am. Parking is free after 11.30am.

What is the smoking policy?

We are currently a non-smoking site. If a resident chooses to smoke, they will have to do so outside of the building.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary, and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.

How to make a referral

Our service provides high quality support to people with varying levels of need. Referrals can be made through the individual’s social care team or, if relevant, their local health authority. If you are a professional looking to make a referral, please call us or fill in our enquiry form.
