A message from our site leader

I like to run the home as if my own family member was living there and what I would like their life to be like, how I would like them to be treated and what I would expect from the staff team. We are always looking for the least restrictive way we can support an individual to develop their skills and improve their quality of life

Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

Home leave is planned with families and our residents. This can be at any time that suits them. If staff support is needed for home visits, then we can facilitate this.

Can friends and families visit?

We are open to visitors at any time, and actively encourage families to visit. However, we ask that family and friends call ahead prior to any visit, to check that their loved one is not out on an activity.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

If they have capacity, our residents can stipulate whether, and how frequently, they would like family to be involved in their care. For people without capacity, we encourage as much involvement from their family members as possible. They know their loved one the best and this means we can ensure that the best possible support is provided.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

We are open 24 hours per day and can be contacted at any time.

What are the bedrooms like?

All of our bedrooms are furnished, and residents are encouraged to choose their own colours and items they would like on display, in order to personalise them. Our furniture is robust to ensure items cannot be removed or broken.

Are external doors kept locked?

We are not a locked service, however, there are key pads on the door at the main entrance. If a person doesn’t have capacity, it would be deemed to be in their best interests that they are not given the codes for the doors.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Some of our residents are encouraged to cook, with support, in their own flats following their menu plan. Others eat from the main kitchen, where there is a chef who offers different choices every day and encourages healthier food options.

How does laundry work?

We have a dedicated laundry room and staff support residents to complete their laundry, or they complete it independently. Our self-contained flats have their own laundry facilities. The people we support will always have access to clean clothes and bedding.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

We have a housekeeper at the home who helps to maintain the cleanliness of the building. We also support residents to maintain the cleanliness of their personal space and build on their daily living skills.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

On arriving or leaving the home, we will complete an inventory of all our residents’ belongings. If the person chooses to dispose of any item, this is recorded in the daily logs.

How do activities work?

We offer a range of activities which are personalised to our residents.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention. We require our care plans which include restrictions to be assessed frequently, for example procedures for interventions such as pro re nata (PRN) medication are regularly reviewed and removed, where possible. We have a restraint reduction plan in place for individuals who require restrictive practices, to ensure we are reducing these as soon as it is practically safe to do so.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

We work as an MDT to involve families, next of kin and social workers to ensure that our care plans are person-centred, detailed and in the best interests of the people we support. We also involve our residents as much as possible in their support plans. All our plans are regularly reviewed and updated as the needs of the people we care for change.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have a large car park at the back of the home, for staff and visitors to use.

What is the smoking policy?

We have dedicated smoking areas on-site for residents. We have a zero tolerance to smoking in the buildings.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary, and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.

How to make a referral

Our service provides high quality support to people with varying levels of need. Referrals can be made through the individual’s social care team or, if relevant, their local health authority. If you are a professional looking to make a referral, please call us or fill in our enquiry form.
