A message from our site leader

I like to run the home as if my own family member was living there and what I would like their life to be like, how I would like them to be treated and what I would expect from the staff team. We are always looking for the least restrictive way we can support an individual to develop their skills and improve their quality of life

Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

Home leave is planned with parents and the individuals. This can be at any time which suits them. If staff support is required for home visits, then we facilitate this.

Can friends and families visit?

We are open to visitors at any time, but we ask family and friends call ahead to check the individual is not out the house on an activity.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

If the resident has capacity, then it is down to them to stipulate how frequently or if they would like family involved in their care. For individuals without capacity, we encourage as much involvement from family and peers who know the individual the best so that we can ensure the best possible support is provided.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

We are open 24 hours per day and can be contacted at any time, and will support residents to keep in touch.

What are the bedrooms like?

Bedrooms are all furnished and our residents are encouraged to choose colours and items they would like on display so their room is personalised to them. We buy robust toughened furniture when there is a need to ensure items cannot be removed or broken.

Are external doors kept locked?

We are not a locked service, however there is a fob system on the door at the main entrance. If the individual did not have capacity, then we feel it would be in their best interests not to have a fob for the doors.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Our team will support individuals to cook independently if they wish. Alternatively, staff will prepare food on request based on each individuals’ choices. We can accommodate special dietary requirements and support with any other concerns around mealtimes.

How does laundry work?

We have a dedicated laundry room and staff support the individuals to complete their laundry or they complete it on their own. Individuals always have access to clean clothes and bedding.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Our staff team helps maintain the cleanliness of the building. We also support the individuals to maintain the cleanliness of their personal space and build on daily living skills including completing laundry. We have a dedicated laundry room for this to be completed and the annex has its own laundry facilities.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

On arriving or leaving the home, we will complete an inventory of all belongings and if the individual chooses to dispose of any item, this is recorded within the daily logs.

How do activities work?

Residents complete a range of activities which are personalised to them, for example voluntary work, going to the gym, swimming, bowling, cinema, birthday parties, summer parties, themed evenings, tuck shop, movie night, boogie nights, visits to zoo and farms and special occasion events such as bonfire night and Christmas.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention. We require our care plans which include restrictions to be assessed frequently, for example procedures for interventions such as pro re nata (PRN) medication are regularly reviewed and removed, where possible. We have a restraint reduction plan in place for individuals who require restrictive practices to ensure we are reducing these as soon as practically safe to do so.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

We work as a team to involve families, next of kin and social workers to ensure that care plans are person-centred, detailed and in the best interest of residents. We also involve the individual as much as possible in their support plans and the documents are kept live and regularly reviewed and updated as needs change.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have a small car park at the back of the home for staff and visitors to use.

What is the smoking policy?

We have dedicated smoking areas on site for individuals. We have a zero tolerance to smoking in the buildings.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary, and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.

How to make a referral

Our service provides high quality support to people with varying levels of need. Referrals can be made through the individual’s social care team or, if relevant, their local health authority. If you are a professional looking to make a referral, please call us or fill in our enquiry form.
