About this location

Primrose Villa is located in Bristol. Our home provides residential support for seven males and females, who are autistic, have a learning disability, or mental health needs. The service is located on a side street, just off a main road.

Our goal is to support individuals to be as independent as possible, while ensuring they receive the support they need.

We can also support people who have:

  • Difficulties with communication
  • Epilepsy
  • Non-epileptic attack disorder (NEAD)

About our service

Our facilities and environment

Primrose Villa is a large, semi-detached house which dates back to the Victorian period. We have seven bedrooms and four communal bathrooms, split across three floors.

Our bedrooms

All of our bedrooms are comfortable, welcoming and can be decorated according to our residents’ preferences. Our bedrooms have their own washbasin facilities.

Our approach to support

Everyone who lives at Primrose Villa has their own person-centred care plan, which is co-produced with input from the individual, their family members and professionals involved in their care. We aim to help everyone in our care to make their own choices about the support they receive. This may include support in a number of areas, such as daily living skills, building independence, going out in the community and personal care.

We want to provide the highest quality of support to the people we care for, to enable them to build on their skills so they can live more independently and reach their goals.

Our support approaches at Primrose Villa include positive behaviour support (PBS). We also have support from a local community learning disability team (CLDT), including psychology, psychiatry and speech and language therapy (SaLT). In addition, we use tools such as the Outcomes Star™ to support our residents to achieve their goals.

The lengths of the placements that we offer at Primrose Villa can be medium or long-term residential, depending on the needs of each person.

Activities

Everyone who lives at Primrose Villa has their own personalised activities planner and are encouraged to take part in activities which are meaningful and fulfilling to them. Our dedicated team organise a variety of activities at the home, as well as out in the community.

We focus on supporting our residents to grow their independence. For some people, this may mean developing their daily living skills within the home. For others, this could be accessing work or educational opportunities in the local community.

People who pose a risk to others in communal living areas.

Through our network of healthcare, residential and supported living facilities, we provide unique care pathways which help the people we support to progress towards greater independence. Every individual we support is provided with a bespoke pathway plan, tailored according to their individual needs. We aim to ensure that each person is supported to live a fulfilling and active life in the community.

Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We encourage and support our residents to attend home visits. We will work with the resident and their relatives to ensure possible risks are managed and that everyone is supported.

Can friends and families visit?

Yes, family and friends can visit the service. We also support visits off-site or at the family home. Unfortunately, family members cannot stay at Primrose Villa overnight, however, residents can stay at their family home overnight.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

Yes, our team are dedicated to keeping loved ones of our residents involved in their care. Families are regularly invited to meetings at the home, and they can also meet the residents’ support team and hear about what is happening in the home. For those who can’t attend as regularly or in person, we can also arrange catch-ups via telephone.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Yes, we have a house phone available to use for residents without access to their own personal mobile phones.

What are the bedrooms like?

Bedrooms are all furnished and can be decorated according to residents’ individual preferences and tastes.

Are external doors kept locked?

Yes, our external doors are locked. However, every resident will be risk assessed to determine the level of security needed.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Residents have a choice when it comes to what foods they would like to eat, and what times they would like to have their meals.

How does laundry work?

There is a communal laundry machine for all residents to use.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

We encourage our residents to complete household tasks, and our team can support them with these tasks, if needed.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

We have a banned and restricted items list, which can be seen on request.

How do activities work?

Residents can choose what activities they would like to do while they are staying with us. We promote wellbeing and independence.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention. We require our care plans which include restrictions to be assessed frequently, for example procedures for interventions such as pro re nata (PRN) medication are regularly reviewed and removed, where possible.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

Yes, we encourage families to be involved and have an input into care plans, wherever possible/appropriate.

What are the car parking facilities?

There is car parking available outside the main building.

What is the smoking policy?

We have a designated smoking area outside, for residents to use.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary, and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
