Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents with home visits, whenever they wish.

Can friends and families visit?

Yes, friends and family are welcome to visit. We do ask for some notice in advance on visits so we can ensure the resident is in. Unfortunately, we cannot cater for visitors to stay overnight.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

Yes, we keep the loved ones of our residents up-to-date with progress on care and support, providing consent has been given to do so. We will work with families on an individual basis to figure out what works best for them.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Yes, all our residents can be supported to call their loved ones. Family and friends are also able to call.

What are the bedrooms like?

We support our residents to personalise their bedrooms with their own belongings and decorations. All of our bedrooms come fully furnished with robust, low arousal furniture, and have their own en-suites. Whilst we are more than happy to support the personalisation of the bedrooms, some of the furniture has been purchased to suit the needs of our residents and some of it is fitted, and cannot be removed.

Are external doors kept locked?

Yes, our external doors are kept locked for the safety of the people who live here. However, every resident will be risk assessed to determine the level of security needed. Our garden is fenced, so residents can spend time outside and enjoy the views or do activities.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

We have menus and meal planners, but if this isn't to the residents liking they can choose different options. Everyone has an input into what they eat, and alternatives and accommodations for special dietary requirements will always be made available. Our team also promote and encourage residents to participate in cooking and preparing meals, where they can.

How does laundry work?

Our staff encourage residents to actively participate in laundry duties. We will always ensure that people have access to clean bedding and clothing.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Our staff encourage residents to actively participate in housekeeping tasks, where they can. The team will make sure everyone is living in a clean and tidy environment.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

Residents are not allowed to bring anything illegal onto the premises. Items which may pose a risk to the safety of everyone at Mountain View House, may be restricted, subject to a risk assessment.

How do activities work?

We have a dedicated activities co-ordinator, whose role involves planning activities with residents, in line with their preferences, hobbies, and aspirations. This includes fun things to do within the home, as well as trips out into the community, either on an individual basis or with other residents. Everyone has their own tailored activities planner, and we use a variety of communication tools to ensure they can have an input.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

Mountain View House has a PBS practitioner, who works with the people who live here to understand their needs and put in place the right support for them. We also use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on promoting proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention. We require our care plans which include restrictions to be assessed frequently, and promote the least restrictive practices at all times.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

Our team will use a variety of communication tools to ensure each resident can have a say about every aspect of their care. We have regular care plan reviews where family members are asked for their input, providing the resident gives consent or it is deemed to be in their best interests.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have a car park outside Mountain View House, where visitors can park for free.

What is the smoking policy?

The home has a designated area within the car park for residents to smoke or to vape. We do not permit smoking inside the building, and this includes vapes.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary, and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.

How to make a referral

Our service provides high quality support to people with varying levels of need. Referrals can be made through the individual’s social care team or, if relevant, their local health authority. If you are a professional looking to make a referral, please call us or fill in our enquiry form.
