Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

How does home leave work?

Home leave often means we drop home or pick up to promote visits, however this does depend on care packages. Some of our residents are collected by their families.

Can friends and families visit?

Yes, friends and family are welcome to visit, we do ask that we are informed in advance of all visits. There are unfortunately no overnight stay facilities for family on site, however there are local bed & breakfasts that can be accessed.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

We will arrange with loved ones on an individual basis what the best way of staying in touch is. We will always communicate major updates, and can also send over smaller updates about day-to-day happenings, like a person’s involvement in activities, if requested.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Hobbits Holt is located in an area with limited phone reception, however we do have a landline that residents are free to use whenever they wish, and their families are able to contact them on this number.

What are the bedrooms like?

Bedrooms are all furnished, and all residents can personalise their rooms to suit their wishes, they are encouraged to pick their own décor and colour scheme for their rooms.

Are external doors kept locked?

We do not have a locked door for exit. The entrance is key coded to maintain security, so people are unable to just enter the property.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Residents are supported at mealtimes, dependent upon their needs and care package. They are all given choice and like to have input with their weekly menu planning. Dependent upon need, some of our residents may need further support with healthy balanced diets for medical reasons, and this would be done with involvement from the resident, or a Best Interest approach would be used.

How does laundry work?

We have a laundry room which is accessible, and our staff can support residents when it is required.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Residents can take part in cleaning and domestic tasks. dependent upon their ability and choice. Everyone who lives here plays an active role in planning their own tasks.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

Based on resident need and individual risk assessment, we may place restrictions on some items, such as lighters.

How do activities work?

Each resident has an activities planner, the activities and length are dependent on the package of care and additional support. Individuals are encouraged to choose activities that they find enjoyable and rewarding. This may include recreational pursuits within the home, or out in the local community.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We focus on putting in place the right support to meet people’s needs. Our staff are trained to use de-escalation techniques with those who may present with verbal aggression. The people we support do not present with other behaviours that challenge, therefore we do not utilise other interventions.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

Each person staying with us is involved as much as practically possible in their care and support plans, those that lack capacity are still given choices and our supported to make those choices. Care plans are regularly reviewed in the service and residents have a one-to-one key worker meeting each month regarding aspects of their care plans. Families may be involved in this, too, where in line with the resident’s wishes or best interests.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have a driveway that can accommodate one vehicle. Visitors are advised to park on the main road at the bottom of the foot path.

What is the smoking policy?

We have a designated smoking area outside. Smoking is not permitted indoors at any time.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
