Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents to attend family events and visit home. We will work with the resident and their relatives to ensure possible risks are managed and that everyone is supported. This may mean the individual’s key worker will come along on the visit.

Can friends and families visit?

Yes, family and friends are welcome to visit. We operate an open-door policy and encourage people to come to the home to see their loved one.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

Yes, we keep the loved ones of our residents involved in all aspects of their care, where consent is given. We can send photos over, arrange telephone calls, or set up meetings in-person, depending on the preferences of each family and the resident themselves.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Yes, there are no restrictions on this. Residents are supported by staff to call their loved ones any time, via phone or video call. Family and friends are also able to call as often as they like.

What are the bedrooms like?

Bedrooms are all furnished, and residents are supported to personalise them to suit their needs and wishes. Our team are happy to support with this.

Are external doors kept locked?

No, our external doors are locked only at night for security reasons.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

We offer four meals a day, and the people we support are encouraged to cook for themselves in our rehabilitation kitchen, where they can develop their skills. We have lots of choices for food, and residents have full involvement with picking the menu.

How does laundry work?

Residents are supported to tend to do their own laundry using our on-site facilities. Our team are there to help, and will ensure everyone has clean bedding and clothing.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Residents are supported to undertake domiciliary tasks to promote their independence. We want the people staying at Fairhome to take pride in their space, as well as grow their daily living skills. However, our team can provide help if needed, we have a housekeeping team who ensure the home is clean and tidy.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

Residents are not allowed to bring illegal substances or alcohol onto the premises. Other items of concern would be discussed on an individual basis.

How do activities work?

We encourage and fully support residents to plan their own activities. We have lots of outings to places of interest in the community, such as the local football club. Our team will also organise activities within the home, so there’s always something fun to do.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

Our team focus on understanding the needs of the people we support, and putting in place strategies to meet these needs. We will also work closely with multidisciplinary professionals in the community if we have concerns about behaviours.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

Yes, family members are encouraged to have an input into care plans, as long as their loved one has given their consent. Residents have a say about each aspect of their care, and will be involved in the planning of their support, where possible.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have on-site parking which visitors can use.

What is the smoking policy?

Residents can smoke by the designated smoking area in the back garden, which has a shelter. We don’t permit smoking inside the building, and this includes vapes.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
