Our approach to support

Everyone who lives at Fair View Lodge has their own person-centred care plan, which is co-produced with input from the individual, their family members and professionals involved in their care. We aim to help everyone in our care to make their own choices about the support they receive. This may include support in a number of areas, such as going out in the community, personal care, cooking and cleaning, managing finances and maintaining family relationships.

Each resident is assigned their own key worker, who ensures a holistic approach to their support. In addition, we actively encourage the involvement of families and seek to involve them in discussions concerning the welfare of the person staying with us.

Our support approaches at Fair View Lodge include positive behaviour support (PBS), and we have regular access to a dedicated PBS practitioner. The lengths of the placements that we offer at Fair View Lodge can be medium or long-term residential, depending on the needs of each person.

Activities

Everyone who lives at Fair View Lodge has their own personalised activities planner and are encouraged to take part in activities which are meaningful and fulfilling to them. Our dedicated team organise a variety of activities at the home, as well as out in the community.

We focus on supporting our residents to grow their independence. For some people, this may mean developing their daily living skills within the home. For others, this could be accessing work or educational opportunities in the local community.

We encourage the people we support to develop feelings of security and form relationships with others in the immediate and extended community. It is our aim to assist each person to develop the skills they need to participate fully in the immediate and wider community and live the life they want to.

Pathways

Through our network of healthcare, residential and supported living facilities, we provide unique care pathways which help the people we support to progress towards greater independence. Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents to visit their loved ones, and will work with them and their families on an individual basis to enable this. Any risks will be discussed, and measures put in place to ensure the visits go smoothly.

Can friends and families visit?

Yes, visitors are always welcome. However, due to the complexities of our service, we do ask for a guide time to ensure we have appropriate staff present to support a positive visit. Unfortunately, we do not offer overnight visits due to the layout of the home.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

Where consent has been given, we keep all loved ones up to date with our residents’ outcomes, appointments and achievements. When appropriate, this will also include photos.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Each resident is supported to call parents, family members and friends, as and when they choose.

What are the bedrooms like?

All bedrooms are fully furnished with robust furniture, in a variety of colours dependent on choice.

Are external doors kept locked?

All of our doors are locked and operate on a key fob system.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Each resident is encouraged to make, or help to make, a breakfast and lunch of their choice. Evening meals are cooked by staff, but chosen weekly by the residents.

How does laundry work?

Each resident is encouraged and supported to take a role in doing their own laundry, and in choosing what they want to wear.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Each resident is supported to clean their own living space by their support workers, as well as a daily clean by the support staff, assigned to them on the day.

Is there anything residents cannot have or bring?

We may place restrictions on items where the risks cannot be appropriately managed. This would be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

How do activities work?

Each day, our residents choose what they would like to do. This is normally each person on their own with their support workers, however, on occasions, they may choose to do a group activity.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

We work with family members and professionals to gather information for our care plans and risk assessments. These are then shared with the person’s GP, other specialists, and families, to ensure transparency.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have space for one visitor car at the home. However, there is local on-street parking available for certain periods during the day, and a public car park situated within a short distance of the home.

What is the smoking policy?

Smoking is not permitted in the house. There is a smoking area/shelter in the rear garden.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.

How to make a referral

Our service provides high quality support to people with varying levels of need. Referrals can be made through the individual’s social care team or, if relevant, their local health authority. If you are a professional looking to make a referral, please call us or fill in our enquiry form.
