About this location

Ebbsfleet House is located in Ramsgate, in Kent. It offers residential support for five males and females, who or are autistic or have a learning disability. We are in a semi-rural location, off a main road, and surrounded by lovely views and beautiful countryside.

Our team are committed to empowering and encouraging the people we care for, enabling them to reach their goals and to develop their self-esteem and the skills they need to live as independently as possible. We want to improve the quality of the individual’s lives, both physically and emotionally by supporting them to attend activities and social events.

We can also support those who have:

  • Difficulties with communication
  • Mild, moderate or severe behaviours that challenge
  • Epilepsy

About our service

Our facilities and environment

Ebbsfleet House is a newly refurbished large, detached cottage which has been adapted into five self-contained flats, all with their own en-suite facilities.

Two of the flats are on the ground floor and two are on the first floor. There is a separate annexe with an additional self-contained flat. All of the residents share a communal lounge, a separate cinema room and an activities cabin.

Our bedrooms

All of our bedrooms are comfortable, welcoming and can be personalised to individual tastes. Our bedrooms have:

  • En-suite facilities, containing either a shower or a bath
  • Wheelchair accessible
  • Robust, low arousal furniture
  • Activities of daily living (ADL) kitchenettes

Our approach to support

Everybody who lives at Ebbsfleet House has their own person-centred care plan, which is co-produced with input from the individual, their family members and professionals involved in their care. We aim to help everyone in our care to make their own choices about the support they receive. This may include support in a number of areas, such as going out in the community, personal care, cooking and cleaning, and maintaining family relationships.

Our support approaches at Ebbsfleet House includes positive behaviour support (PBS), delivered by our in-house practitioner. We also have support from a local multidisciplinary team offering a range of support, including occupational therapy and speech and language therapy.

In addition, we use tools such as the Outcomes Star™ and Active Support to support our residents to achieve their goals. The lengths of the placements that we offer at Ebbsfleet House can be medium or long-term residential, depending on the needs of each person.

Activities

Everyone who lives at Ebbsfleet House has their own personalised activities planner and are encouraged to take part in activities which are meaningful and fulfilling to them. Our dedicated team organise a variety of activities at the home, as well as out in the community.

We focus on supporting our residents to grow their independence. For some people, this may mean developing their daily living skills within the home. For others, this could be accessing work or educational opportunities in the local community.

Pathways

Through our network of healthcare, residential and supported living facilities, we provide unique care pathways which help the people we support to progress towards greater independence. Every individual we support is provided with a bespoke pathway plan, tailored according to their individual needs. We aim to ensure that each person is supported to live a fulfilling and active life in the community. At Ebbsfleet House, we have close links with Priory Supported Living Kent.

Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents to attend family events and visit home and encourage family to attend our events. We will do whatever is required to make this happen, and ensure visits go smoothly.

Can friends and families visit?

Family and friends are welcome to visit and join in our activities. Visits are usually planned in advance to support individual needs. Unfortunately, family members cannot stay overnight.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

Yes, we strive to keep the loved ones of our residents involved in their care and keep in regular contact via phone or email. We will work with families on an individual basis to figure out what works best for them.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

We have landlines with cordless phones in the home for residents to use, which people can use whenever they like. We can also support the individuals who live here to video call with their family.

What are the bedrooms like?

We support our residents to personalise their bedrooms with their own belongings and decorations. The rooms are fully furnished but some of the furniture has been purchased to suit the needs of our residents and some of it is fitted, so therefore cannot be removed.

Are external doors kept locked?

Yes, due to the nature of our service, our external doors are kept locked. We have secure doors with a keypad entry system, to ensure the safety of our residents. However, each individual will be risk assessed to figure out the level of security required to keep them safe.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

We support our residents to cook for themselves and choose healthy options. They can either cook in their own flats or with another resident in their flat, as we have found that many people enjoy cooking together. Everyone has an input into what they eat, and alternatives and accommodations for special dietary requirements will always be made available.

How does laundry work?

Residents can do their own washing, with support if needed, in a separate laundry room within the property. This supports them to develop their independence at home.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Most of our residents are able to undertake domiciliary tasks such as cleaning their own flats, and we have a rota for tasks within the home. Our care team support them with these tasks, and we allocate any chores during our monthly resident meetings.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

Residents are not allowed to bring illegal substances onto the premises. Other item restrictions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

How do activities work?

Every resident enjoys activities as part of their own tailored plan, with their hobbies and interests put at the very centre. Activities may take place within the home, or out in the community, and be either on an individual basis or with fellow residents. A variety of communication tools is used by our key workers, so that residents can have input into the planning of activities.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

Ebbsfleet House has a PBS practitioner, who works with residents to understand their needs and put in place the right support for them. We also use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention. We require our care plans which include restrictions to be assessed frequently, and promote the least restrictive practices at all times.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

We work with social workers, health professionals, family members and residents to develop individual care plans which are in their best interests. A variety of communication tools are used to aid each resident in having a say about every aspect of their care. Care plans are regularly reviewed, and family members will be asked for their input, where appropriate.

What are the car parking facilities?

There is parking available for three cars plus a minibus on-site. On-road parking is also available.

What is the smoking policy?

None of our residents at the home currently smoke. However, if this were to change, people would need to smoke outside of the property, in a designated area.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
