About this location

Eastrop House, located in Basingstoke, offers residential support for nine autistic males and females, as well as those with a learning disability or mental health needs. The house is on a quiet street, near the town centre.

Our team are dedicated to supporting our residents to improve their quality of life by promoting their independence around life skills and community access.

We can also support those who have:

  • Difficulties with communication
  • Mild to moderate behaviours that challenge
  • Epilepsy

About our service

Our facilities and environment

Our home is a large, detached, Victorian property with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There are eight studio bedrooms, split across two floors, and an additional self-contained annexe at the back of the main house. All of our studio bedrooms have their own activities of daily living (ADL) kitchens, designed to promote independence while maintain safety.

We also have communal areas, which include:

  • A large lounge

Eastrop House has its own garden, which is complete with:

Our bedrooms

All of our studio bedrooms are comfortable, welcoming and can be personalised to individual tastes. Our studio bedrooms have:

  • En-suite facilities, containing either a shower, a bath or a wet room
  • ADL kitchenettes
  • Robust, low arousal furniture

Our approach to support

Everyone who lives at Eastrop House has their own person-centred care plan, which is co-produced with input from the individual, their family members and professionals involved in their care. We aim to help everyone in our care to make their own choices about the support they receive. This may include support in a number of areas, such as going out in the community, personal care, and cooking and cleaning.

Our support approaches at Eastrop House include:

  • Positive behaviour support (PBS)
  • Occupational therapy (OT)
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech and language therapy (SaLT)
  • Psychology input
  • Epilepsy support
  • Music therapy

In addition, we use tools such as the Outcomes Star™ to support our residents to achieve their goals. The lengths of the placements that we offer at Eastrop House can be medium or long-term residential, depending on the needs of each person.

Activities

Everyone who lives at Eastrop House has their own personalised activities planner and are encouraged to take part in activities which are meaningful and fulfilling to them. Our dedicated team organise a variety of activities at the home, as well as out in the community.

We focus on supporting our residents to grow their independence. For some people, this may mean developing their daily living skills within the home. For others, this could be accessing work or educational opportunities in the local community.

  • People under the age of 18
  • People who pose a risk to others in communal living areas
  • People with physical disabilities
  • People with a history of sexual offending

Pathways

Through our network of healthcare, residential and supported living facilities, we provide unique care pathways which help the people we support to progress towards greater independence. Every individual we support is provided with a bespoke pathway plan, tailored according to their individual needs. We aim to ensure that each person is supported to live a fulfilling and active life in the community.

We ensure that there is a senior member of staff present in the home every day of the week. Our team also receive specialist staff training, designed to meet the needs of each individual we support. This includes:

We are a warm, energetic service, which provides bespoke support to all the people we care for, tailored to their needs and preferences. We support people to increase their independence skills, including their daily living skills, within the home and outside of the home. We have highly trained staff who are dedicated to improving the lives of our residents.

Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents to attend family events and visit home, working with them and their relatives to ensure possible risks are managed and that everyone is supported. This may mean the individual’s key worker will come along on the visit.

Can friends and families visit?

Family and friends are welcome to visit and take part in activities at the home. Please let us know about visits in advance, as some residents may be out in the community. Unfortunately, family members cannot stay overnight.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

We strive to keep our residents’ loved ones involved in their care. We have regular meetings and reviews, where family members can meet with the residents’ support team and hear about what’s been going on within the home. We can also arrange more regular catch-ups, either in-person or via telephone.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Our home has two incoming phone lines, and there are cordless phones at various points around the home that residents can use whenever they want to. We can also support our residents to get their own mobile phone, where appropriate.

What are the bedrooms like?

Bedrooms are all furnished and residents are supported to personalise them to suit their needs and wishes. However, some of the furniture is fitted, and therefore cannot be removed.

Are external doors kept locked?

Our external gates are locked but people staying with us are individually assessed to determine their security needs. All residents have access to our large garden and can freely enter and exit the building into this area.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Residents are supported to choose and prepare what they want to eat, whenever they like. If some residents need support with any aspect of this, such as preparing food, staff can help. We will also speak to nutritionists as well as our residents’ families, to make sure that we are catering for individual dietary requirements.

How does laundry work?

Our team makes sure that everyone we support has access to clean bedding and clothes at all times. We have laundry facilities on-site that residents can use independently if they’re able to, or with support from staff.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Our care teams supports residents with these tasks, and task allocation is also discussed in our monthly resident meetings

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

We may place restrictions on some items that may pose a risk to residents and staff, such as non-approved drugs and medications, solvent-based products and lighters.

How do activities work?

We encourage and support our residents to design their own personal activities timetable, which will include in-house activities and trips into the community.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

We use the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework, which means we focus on proactive strategies, rather than physical intervention. We require our care plans which include restrictions to be assessed frequently, for example procedures for interventions such as pro re nata (PRN) medication are regularly reviewed and removed, where possible.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

Our approach involves partnering with social workers, family members and residents to establish care plans that truly benefit our residents. Through a range of communication methods and in co-ordination with healthcare professionals, we ensure that every resident has a voice in shaping their care experience. Regular assessments of these care plans are conducted, with active involvement from family members in providing their insights.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have off-road parking at the home.

What is the smoking policy?

Residents can smoke by the designated smoking area in the back garden, which has a shelter. We don’t permit smoking inside the building, and this includes vapes. Residents are able to buy cigarettes and vapes at the shops, if this is what they choose.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
