This may include support in a number of areas, such as going out in the community, personal care, cooking and cleaning, and maintaining family relationships.

Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We actively support our residents to have healthy relationships with their family and support them to attend family events or visit their family homes. We will work with everyone involved to ensure possible risks are managed.

Can friends and families visit?

Family and friends are welcome to visit and participate in a range of activities at our home. We do ask for advanced notice to ensure we are able to manage any stress and anxiousness that some of our residents may feel. Unfortunately, visitors cannot stay overnight.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

We arrange regular phone calls with family to keep them informed about their loved one and they are invited to all events at the home.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

We have a landline with two different handsets, and residents are supported to make calls to their family members.

What are the bedrooms like?

All of our bedrooms are all furnished with everything that our residents may need. They are of course supported to personalise their rooms to suit their needs and wishes. Some of the furniture has been purchased to suit the needs of our residents and some of it is fitted, so therefore it cannot be removed.

Are external doors kept locked?

Our doors are only locked at night, as you would with your own home.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

We have healthy eating champions at the home who look at the choices made by residents and works with them to make their choices as healthy as possible. Residents are supported to choose and prepare what they want to eat, whenever they like. We will support them with any concerns they may have including preparing their food. Our team will also liaise with family members and our nutritionists to ensure that special dietary requirements are catered for.

How does laundry work?

Our team will ensure that our residents always have access to clean clothes and bedding. Our utility room with laundry facilities is available for residents to make use of either independently or with the support from our staff.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Most of our residents are able to undertake domiciliary tasks such as cleaning. We have a rota in place to assign tasks for everyone and task allocation is discussed in our monthly resident meetings. They are supported by our care team to complete the chores.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

Residents are not allowed to bring illegal substances onto the premises and there may be restrictions on some items where the risks cannot be appropriately managed.

How do activities work?

A tailored activities planner is developed for all of our residents and includes both in-house and community activities. We want our residents to have an input into the planning of the activities and their key worker may use a variety of communication tools to ensure they are involved.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

Here at Cotswold Lodge, our team work closely with residents to fully understand their unique needs. Detailed care plans are regularly reviewed and adapted to reflect any changes in behaviours. We are also served by a regional PBS lead, who can support our in-house team, where required.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

We work with social workers, family members and residents to develop care plans which are in the best interests of our residents. We use a variety of communication tools and work with health professionals to aid each resident in having a say about every aspect of their care. Care plans are regularly reviewed, and family members will be asked for their input.

What are the car parking facilities?

There is private parking for up to eight cars, plus two mini buses.

What is the smoking policy?

Residents can smoke by the designated smoking area in the back garden. We don’t permit smoking inside the building, and this includes vapes. Residents are able to buy cigarettes and vapes at the shops, if this is what they choose.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.

How to make a referral

Our service provides high quality support to people with varying levels of need. Referrals can be made through the individual’s social care team or, if relevant, their local health authority. If you are a professional looking to make a referral, please call us or fill in our enquiry form.
