Skills and leisures

Independence skills

We are committed to providing sufficient support for residents to lead as much of an independent life as is possible for them.

We offer a stepdown service for individuals, helping them create a pathway back into the community and continue the transition to help them lead an independent life.

We support those in our care to develop daily living skills such as:

  • Budgeting
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Personal hygiene
  • Shopping

Staff work closely with residents to provide the support required to gain access to employment and voluntary work opportunities.

We have good links with Weston College, which provides residents with access to education and training opportunities. For example, one of the people at Cherrywood House is currently studying cookery at the college.

Leisure activities

Cherrywood House is located on the outskirts of Weston Super Mare, meaning it is within easy reach of the town’s wide variety of leisure facilities. Residents are able take a short bus ride into the town centre where they can find:

  • A theatre
  • Cinemas
  • Cafés
  • Museums
  • Restaurants
  • Shops

Many residents at Cherrywood House enjoy going to the gym or taking a walk in the nearby woods which leads to the beach. There is also easy access to the town’s railway station which has trains to Bristol (an hour away), as well as other nearby places including Burnham-on-Sea, Taunton and Devon.
