65a Newtown is a detached and spacious house that has numerous facilities for residents to take advantage of. All of the three bedrooms are located on the first floor where there is also a shared bathroom; people using the service are encouraged to decorate and furnish their rooms to their own individual taste.
The house is also home to a large lounge and dining area; people who live at Newtown Road are encouraged to prepare their own meals and participate in the upkeep of their home with support from staff. Outside there is also a barbecue area, along with a large garden with fruit trees and areas to sit.
There is a working allotment at the nearby skills centre where people are encouraged to participate in planting, growing and picking their own fruit and vegetables, and help to look after the chickens.
A range of activities
The staff team at 65a Newtown work with individuals to develop an activities timetable and to ensure that everyone is given the opportunity to lead a full and active life. Being actively part of the local community is something that we encourage, and we support people to take part in social events as well as visiting local pubs and clubs on a regular basis.
65a Newtown is connected to a larger service called The Old Rectory, which provides a skills centre that people can access to learn basic skills including cookery, using a computer and gardening, as well as more therapeutic activities such as art, music sessions and individual communication techniques.
The local college offers a range of life skills and relaxation courses for people with a learning disability. The service also supports people with swimming sessions, music therapy, horse riding and work placements.
Newtown is close to the centre of Trowbridge, with access to shopping centres, museums, theatres, swimming pools, a gym and colleges all within easy walking distance. There is a train station and bus stops are very close to the service with good links to other towns. Within the area there are also many country parks and nature reserves that can be easily accessed for more relaxing activities.
