How this care home improved their rating from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’

Claremount House rated CQC 'Good'

A residential care home in Halifax, West Yorkshire, has seen its rating with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) advance, following a recent inspection by the health and care regulator.

Based on the findings of the CQC’s recent inspection, the overall rating for Claremount House has changed from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’, with the report noting that feedback about the service, from residents, resident's relatives, and staff was consistently positive.

The CQC looks at a variety of criteria during its assessment, exploring factors such as the safety procedures in place at the service, the quality of the leadership, and the responsiveness of the staff. The report reflected that the service’s leaders and the culture they have created actively promotes the provision of high-quality care, which is “person-centred, open, inclusive and empowering” and “achieves good outcomes” for residents.

One relative complimented the service by saying, "when I visit they are welcoming. Staff are very caring, good with people and I'm pleased with the way they have been with Dad." Another relative commented to inspectors that "I can tell it's well managed because of the way they come in to see to my relative and ask him things, and because everyone is happy. It's very efficient, very good and I would go in there if I got dementia."

The report also noted the various improvements to the facilities currently being enacted within the service, including the implementation of a more accessible outdoor space and the creation of a sensory room for residents to enjoy. Read the full CQC report for Claremount House to learn more.

“One of the most important parts of working in care is having your team together – team work is extremely important to support each other, and provide exceptional care to those in need.

“This doesn’t just mean frontline care workers, we ensure teamwork includes our colleagues in administration, housekeeping, catering, activities, and maintenance – as without them, our service wouldn’t function.

“By empowering all of our colleagues, and providing opportunities for learning and enrichment, our team feel confident to take on extra responsibility and step in where needed.

“At Claremount, we try not to wait until the last minute to fix something – if we notice something needing improvement, we’re on it. We keep in regular contact with our Operational Director, ensuring everything is reported, so we can all see what needs improvement, and where – before it gets too late.”
