Achieving positive outcomes for an adult with autism

Charlotte* was diagnosed with both autism and severe challenging behaviour. As Charlotte got older, her parents found it difficult to cope with Charlotte’s behaviour, especially her physical aggression towards them and other people. With this occurring on a constant basis and becoming more aggressive, Charlotte’s parents required additional support and contacted their local authority.

A positive future thanks to Cherrywood House and Supporting You

Veronica* had lived in a number of residential services but did not receive the support she needed. When she began to experience mental health problems, her parents decided to look for somewhere that could help her build a more positive future. Veronica moved into Priory Adult Care’s Cherrywood House and although she still had many challenging days, she began to make progress.

Reducing an adult’s challenging behaviour

Andrew* moved into Julian’s Road in December 2014 as a crisis referral having been with Foster Carers for 6 years.

On arrival, Andrew was highly distressed and agitated due to having less than a weeks’ notice that he was leaving his previous home. With a history of challenging behaviour and self-harm it was clear from the initial two days in the service that additional support would be needed for Andrew, particularly at night.

Achieving a positive discharge from nursing care to a residential setting

Derek* was referred to the Oaks Care Home for a nursing dementia placement. Derek was 78 years old and had been assessed as requiring nursing dementia care due to displaying confusion, disorientation. He also had a history of distressed reactions, particularly with personal care.
