Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents to attend family events and visit their family homes, sometimes accompanied by their key worker if support is needed. We will work with the resident and their relatives to ensure possible risks are managed and that everyone is supported.

Can friends and families visit?

Family and friends are welcome to visit and participate in activities at the service. Unfortunately we cannot cater for visitors to stay overnight.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

We are committed to keeping the loved ones of our residents involved in their care. Families are regularly invited to meetings at the home, where they will meet with the residents’ support team and find out about day to day life in our home. More regular catch-ups either in person or via telephone, are also be arranged.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

Our home a phone line, and there is cordless phone which can be used by residents at any time. Our residents are supported to get their own mobile phone, where appropriate.

What are the bedrooms like?

All our bedrooms are all furnished, and some of the furniture has been purchased to suit the needs of our residents and cannot be removed. We encourage residents to bring in their own belongings and decorations to make it feel more homely.

Are external doors kept locked?

Yes, due to the nature of our service, our external doors are locked. However, every resident is individually risk assessed. We have a large garden area and courtyard which can be enjoyed by residents, who can come and go freely between the home and the garden.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

We support residents with their meals and special dietary requirements. They can choose and prepare their own meals, with extra help if needed. Family members often give us invaluable information about their likes and dislikes.

How does laundry work?

Residents are given help to do their own laundry in our utility room. Our team also provide clean clothes and bedding.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Cleaning is carried out by our residents on a rota. It helps to promote independence but any issues and support needs are discussed in our monthly resident meetings.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

Please do not bring valuables such as family heirlooms to our home, as we cannot guarantee their safety. Some items are restricted, where the risks cannot be appropriately managed.

How do activities work?

Everyone we care for has a tailored activities planner. This will include both in-house activities as well as visits into the community. Their key worker may use a variety of communication tools to ensure the resident can have an input into the planning.

How will residents be supported with their behavioural needs?

Our residents are supported with detailed care plans, so our team have a really strong understanding of their needs, preferences and goals. If a person’s behaviours change, we will review and amend their care plans accordingly. All of our team are trained in PBS. We also have the support of a regional PBS lead within Priory, and PBS professionals in the community, where required.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

We use a variety of communication tools to develop care plans in partnership with our residents. The views of their loved ones and wider support team are also sought, where appropriate.

What are the car parking facilities?

We have space for two cars and on-street parking is free.

What is the smoking policy?

Residents can smoke by the designated smoking area in the back garden. We don’t permit smoking inside the building, including vapes. Residents are able to buy cigarettes and vapes at the shops.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary, and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.
