Our approach to support

Everybody who lives at The Tides has their own person-centred care plan, which is co-produced with input from the individual, their family members and professionals involved in their care. Family and friends FAQs

How does home leave work?

We support our residents to attend family events and visit home, making sure that all risks are managed and everyone is supported accordingly. If needed, the resident’s key worker may come along with them on the visit.

Can friends and families visit?

Family and friends are welcome to visit and participate in activities. Unfortunately, we cannot facilitate overnight stays for visitors.

Will I be involved and kept up to date with the progress of my loved one’s care and support?

Yes, we strive to keep the loved ones of our residents involved in their care. We can arrange regular catch-ups, either in person or via telephone, to ensure that families are kept informed.

Will my loved one be able to have a phone or call me?

We welcome calls from loved ones and support residents to also get their own mobile phone should they wish to.

What are the bedrooms like?

Bedrooms are all furnished, and residents are supported to personalise them to suit their needs and wishes.

Are external doors kept locked?

There is a key pad lock on the front door to ensure the safety and security of our residents.

What do residents eat and how do meal times work?

Residents are supported to choose and prepare what they want to eat, whenever they like. Our team will also seek advice from family members and nutritionists to ensure that special dietary needs are catered for.

How does laundry work?

Staff support residents to complete their laundry.

Who does the housekeeping and domiciliary tasks?

Staff support residents with household tasks, and we encourage residents to do as much as they are able for themselves.

Is there anything they can’t bring or have?

Residents can have their own belongings in their bedrooms. We have a safe where any valuables can be kept.

How are people supported with their behavioural needs?

We use a positive behaviour support (PBS) approach here at The Tides. Where required, people will have their own PBS plans in place. In addition, our staff are trained in non-restrictive PROACT-SCIPr-UK® support techniques.

How do activities work?

Every resident has a tailored activities planner. This includes both in-house activities as well as visits into the community. We have an aromatherapist who visits every Thursday, we facilitate sensory activities, support people to access day centres, and also promote activities such as shopping, going to the cinema, bowling and going out for lunch.

Do residents and families have an input into the care plans?

Yes, we encourage input, where appropriate, from families and loved ones.

What are the car parking facilities?

There is a large private car park to the front of the building.

What is the smoking policy?

The Tides is a smoke free home, however, we do have a designated smoking area in the back garden for residents who wish to smoke.

What are your fees and how are they funded?

Our fees can vary, and are based on an assessment of each individual's needs. Many people are eligible for financial help towards the cost of support, and this funding can be accessed by contacting your local authority. Once funding has been agreed, we will work with your local care team to put together a bespoke package of care. Please note, referrals for NHS or Local Authority funded services must come from a referring organisation.

How to make a referral

Our service provides high quality support to people with varying levels of need. Referrals can be made through the individual’s social care team or, if relevant, their local health authority. If you are a professional looking to make a referral, please call us or fill in our enquiry form.
